Google+ is the new social network from Google - and it's available wherever you go thanks to this Google+ for Android app.
Even though it's been suggested that Google+ is a Facebook-killer, it's really much more than that. First and foremost, the Google+ app makes sharing a whole lot easier and useful.
What really makes Google+ stand out is its use of Circles. Circles are separate groups of friends, family members and other acquaintances that allow you to direct and streamline your sharing so that you only share relevant items with relevant people. This means that your contacts won't get Stream "spam", or posts that are of no interest to them at all, while simultaneously giving you greater control over your privacy.
In many ways, the Google+ interface does resemble Facebook. The homepage gives you access to Stream, Messenger, Photos, Profile and Circles. From here you'll also be able to see if you have any new notifications. Stream is where you'll be able see everything that's been happening, from posts people have shared to what they have been up to.
Photos and Profile are pretty self-explanatory - with Photos, you'll see your photos and images from others. It's important here to check your sharing settings, because you can set Google+ to automatically upload photos you take with your mobile device. Under Profile, you'll be able to see your Google profile, but you won't actually be able to to modify it from within the Google+ app.
Messenger is another interesting and novel feature offered by Google+. It's basically a group messaging function that allows you to simultaneously share information with friends or Circles. Google+ also includes Hangouts, a group video messaging service.
There are no overall settings for Google+ for Android - you'll see a different selection of settings options under Menu depending on what screen you are at (Circles, Messenger, etc.) when you press the Menu button. This is a little uncomfortable and requires you to methodically go through each area at least once to make sure you have everything configured as you'd like.
Google+ is the next generation of social networking. Install the Android app now and make sure you're up-to-date with all the action!
